Sonus Faber Lumina I
Powerful performance, compact dimensions.
Lumina I takes inspiration from Sonus faber’s core designs and technologies, packaged in a sleek and minimalistic bookshelf speaker.
IMMERSIVE AND VERSATILE
The Lumina I is the most compact high-end passive loudspeaker in its category. This feature makes it extremely easy to place, turning it into the perfect choice for smaller spaces.
CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED
Lumina I has obtained global acclaim for its surprising power in musical reproduction and the emotional performances contained within its small dimensions.
SIMPLICITY AND STYLE
Lumina takes note of Sonus faber’s iconic natural materials.
SIMPLICITY, STYLE, AND PERFORMANCE
Lumina takes note from core Sonus faber technologies, design, and manufacturing principles – transforming them into a beautifully minimalistic masterpiece, made in Italy.
MIDWOOFER
Lumina I features a brand-new 4” midwoofer developed for this collection. It is equipped with a custom-made basket and a diaphragm composed of cellulose pulp blended with other natural fibers.
TWEETER
The iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter, the same used in the Sonetto series, features a Kurtmueller hand coated soft silk diaphragm of 29mm. The chrome rings around the drivers highlight their shapes and proportions and give brightness to the front baffle.
TERMINALS
Each Lumina speaker featuers two pairs of nickel-plated terminals, allowing for an upgrade experience through bi-wiring and bi-amping.
REFLEX PORT
The reflex port gives additional versatility for the models’ range. Placed on the frontside of the speakers, this solution makes Lumina II significantly less sensitive to placement, delivering powerful and nuanced sound even when placed close to a back wall.

Value for Money
88/100
Compact yet confidently room-filling, the Lumina I pairs rich, expressive midrange with surprisingly weighty bass, sweet refined treble and a believable soundstage. Hi-Fi Choice admired its authority beyond its dimensions, while What Hi-Fi? highlighted its nuanced, natural vocal delivery. Leather-wrapped cabinetry and real-wood detailing complete an inviting, luxury-minded standmount.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Full-bodied, punchy bass and room-filling scale that outperform expectations for such a compact standmount.
Expressive, warm and detailed midrange that gives vocals and acoustic instruments convincing natural presence.
Premium real-wood and leather-wrapped cabinet construction with a notably luxurious finish.
&
Cons
Low 84dB sensitivity and 4-ohm load benefit from a capable, powerful amplifier.
Falls short of larger rivals for deep bass, large-scale dynamics and rhythmic drive.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 89/100
The Lumina I combines a rich, composed and naturally detailed presentation with bass weight that belies its compact cabinet. It excels with voices, acoustic instruments and smaller-scale music, while its smooth treble and convincing sense of space make it an easy speaker to listen to for long sessions. It does need a capable amplifier and cannot match larger rivals for ultimate scale, rhythmic urgency or high-volume authority.
Bass
89/100
For a compact 120mm-driver standmount, reviewers consistently found the bass unusually full, taut and weighty. Hi-Fi Choice says the claimed 65Hz roll-off is bettered in-room without port noise or obvious strain, while What Hi-Fi praises its punch and articulation. Deep bass remains limited, and Ecoustics notes that careful amplification helps get the best from the woofer.
Mid
91/100
The midrange is a clear strength, with reviewers praising its warmth, solidity, detail and natural treatment of voices. What Hi-Fi highlights the nuance and human presence in Laurie Anderson's vocal, while Hi-Fi Choice hears appealing richness from voices and strings without excessive softness. Ecoustics found that vocals truly shine once the speaker has run in and is partnered with sympathetic electronics.
Treble
90/100
High frequencies are widely described as sweet, silky and refined, with enough bite and information to preserve musical life. Hi-Fi Choice heard no perceptible edge, and What Hi-Fi found the treble well integrated with the mid/bass driver. The presentation is slightly conservative rather than especially open or expansive, according to both What Hi-Fi and The Audiophile Man.
Soundstage Imaging
89/100
Reviewers report a convincing ability to disappear and create a substantial, believable acoustic space. Hi-Fi Choice praised its big soundstage, stable central images and composure as arrangements build, while Ecoustics found it disappeared convincingly even on a dining-room credenza. One review characterises the stage as more notable for depth and layering than outright width.
Dynamics
82/100
The Lumina I can sound lively, immediate and propulsive when adequately driven, and Hi-Fi Choice found it more agile than many rivals. However, several reviews identify clear limits: it can become strained when pushed hard, lacks the dynamic reach of some competitors and does not convey large-scale music with full authority. Its relaxed rhythmic character and low sensitivity also reward a muscular amplifier.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
90/100
The cabinet is repeatedly praised for its luxurious materials, attractive real-wood veneer, leather wrap and solid feel. Hi-Fi Choice found the enclosure impressively inert and its contact points confidence-inspiring, while What Hi-Fi says it looks special for the money. The moulded plastic base is the notable exception, as What Hi-Fi considers it less premium than the rest of the execution.
Value for Money
88/100
At roughly £799 to £1,000, the Lumina I faces a crowded standmount market but offers unusually luxurious styling, strong finish quality and a distinctive, refined sound. What Hi-Fi considers it well worth seeking out for buyers who value its elegant presentation, while Gramophone gives it an enthusiastic recommendation at its sub-$900 price. It is not presented as the outright performance leader among similarly priced rivals, so its appeal is strongest for listeners who want both sound quality and Sonus Faber's design character.
