Become immersed in the stunningly natural sound of the Kyte loudspeakers system. Meticulously designed to deliver the true Rega sound at an affordable price. Using our own ZRR high frequency unit and a handmade pair of Rega MX-125 bass-mid drivers, this compact bookshelf speaker is designed to complement any hi-fi or audio system.

Experience Rega

Experience the true voice of Rega components with the all new Kyte loudspeaker system. The Kytes are meticulously hand assembled in house using our unique design phenolic resin cabinet. Internally they feature ceramic plates and carefully engineered cross bracing developed to make the cabinet extremely stiff. This prevents unwanted resonances interfering with the accurate output of the drive units and directly improves both dynamics and the bass performance from the speaker. The Kytes are easy to position and are supplied with an optional foot to allow for various positioning giving the user greater flexibility. A custom designed stand mount adaptor is available (sold separately) to allow use on a wide variety of third party stands.

Rega fans out there will know that we have always questioned the marketing and science surrounding turntables. Experiments and research have allowed us to debunk most commonly held beliefs and use real engineering to produce world beating sound quality at sensible prices. However, the loudspeaker market is very different because a valid scientific and engineering discipline exists which in turn has created hundreds of competitors in the loudspeaker marketplace. The success of many loudspeakers depends on powerful marketing, eye watering advertising budgets (of which Rega spends zero) and financial inducement to retailers. The funds that most loudspeaker companies would spend on marketing Rega has put it all in to research and develop to achieve a totally unique cabinet constructions and our own high frequency unit and bass/midrange driver (incorporating a four layer voice coil). We even manufacture and wind our crossover components in house.

So why phenolic? Historically the accepted perception of a loudspeaker was a rectangular shaped wood veneered cabinet to compliment household wood furniture.

The market has always demanded loudspeakers to be furniture and since the 90’s European manufacturers were left with the choice of Far Eastern manufacturing or inflated prices for home built wooden cabinets. However, recent times have seen the world change styling perceptions and there has been a wholesale investment in modern moulding shapes and the use of functional materials. Injection moulded plastic loudspeaker cabinets are not new but flexible moulded plastic has been reserved for the PA world or small desktop loudspeakers where convenience and portability were a priority over sonic performance. This more recent domestic acceptance of non-wood functional cabinet shapes has allowed Rega to achieve a long term dream. We have made a massive investment into injection moulding of stiff thermoset phenolic resin and collaborated with British company to achieve it. The natural stiffness of phenolic resin is a big advantage which has been further enhanced with ceramic plates and a complex internal cross brace structure. This unique cabinet constructions has been achieved at one third of the price of other British made quality loudspeakers.

Rating for KYTE

Sound Quality

91/100

Build Quality

Value for Money

95/100

Rega Kyte stand-mounts put fast, coherent midrange and rhythmic musicality ahead of empty hi-fi fireworks. The Ear admired their emotional communication, while TONEAudio MAGAZINE found an unusually refined, balanced performance for the class. The inert phenolic-resin cabinet supports articulate bass, smooth treble and spacious, easy-going imaging—an engaging compact speaker with serious value.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"The Kyte is such an overall high achiever, with a level of balance usually reserved for much more expensive speakers."

— TONEAudio MAGAZINE

Pros

Fast, clear and emotionally communicative midrange brings voices and acoustic instruments to life.

Refined, well-balanced sound with articulate bass, smooth defined treble and little of the grain associated with budget speakers.

Wide dispersion and convincing spatial detail make placement relatively unfussy and listening engaging across the room.

Rigid, resonance-conscious phenolic-resin cabinet and internal bracing underpin exceptional value.

&

Cons

Its compact woofer cannot provide the deep-bass slam or room-filling scale of larger speakers.

The rear port requires some breathing room from the wall, and placement beside a turntable can cause low-frequency feedback.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 91/100

The Kyte is repeatedly praised for a fast, highly coherent and emotionally communicative presentation that prioritises musical involvement over hi-fi spectacle. Reviewers also found unusually clean, refined sound for a compact speaker, with articulate bass, a notably strong midband and spacious imaging.

Bass

89/100

For its compact rear-ported enclosure, reviewers found the bass surprisingly ample, detailed and articulate. TONEAudio reports that it becomes tighter and more extended after running in, while Analogholic notes that it does not deliver the physical deep-bass impact of a larger driver.

Mid

94/100

The midrange is the Kyte's most consistently celebrated strength. The Ear highlights its speed, coherence and emotional pull, while TONEAudio and Analogholic praise its refinement, clarity and the clean, well-formed portrayal of piano, vocals and saxophone.

Treble

91/100

Treble is described as smooth, defined and resolving rather than etched or fatiguing. TONEAudio found a lack of the grain and cloudiness often associated with budget speakers, while The Ear heard intact guitar harmonics and convincing recorded reverb.

Soundstage Imaging

92/100

Reviewers report wide dispersion, strong layering and a deep front-to-back stage when recordings allow it. The Kyte is said to remain engaging from different listening positions and to reveal subtle spatial cues, although The Ear notes that it cannot fill a room like substantially larger speakers.

Dynamics

91/100

Despite its small woofer, the Kyte is reported to play remarkably loudly without audible distortion. Reviewers found rhythms compelling, music punchy and dynamic, with an energetic delivery that maintains control rather than sounding strained.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

91/100

The unusual phenolic-resin cabinet is repeatedly described as inert, rigid and carefully engineered rather than merely unconventional. Reviewers specifically note its ceramic damping plates, internal cross-bracing, resonance-conscious shape and Rega-designed drivers; the lifetime guarantee further inspires confidence.

Value for Money

95/100

At roughly $795 per pair, TONEAudio calls the Kyte an exceptional value and says its refinement suggests a considerably more expensive speaker. The Ear likewise considers it excellent value, particularly alongside the lifetime guarantee, while Analogholic finds it a solid-value choice at the same price.
