Rega Nd7
The all new Nd7 moving magnet cartridge was developed over 10 years and promises to deliver ‘next level’ performance from moving magnet technology. The Nd range(patent pending) is a world first to use ultra-high powered Neodymium magnets in a moving magnet design which allows us to create this totally unique design.
Next level Moving Magnet
Each Nd7 is meticulously hand-made by our highly skilled technicians. The Nd7 uses our most advanced “fine line” nude diamond profile for the ultimate in detail retrieval. (The same profile is used on our high end MC models the Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2). This profile has an exceptionally small radii Monocrystalline manmade diamond with the minor radius being just 3µm (microns) as viewed from the top and 30µm in the vertical when viewed from the front. This profile allows immediate adjustment to very small changes in the vinyl due to the small contact area of the diamond which results in exceptional levels of detail being retrieved. The design uses brand new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance. The Nd7 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and cross talk characteristics, this provides a far wider soundstage than the previous models. This new cartridge is created with miniaturised parallel coils which are wound in house utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. This produces a low inductance, low impedance generator giving vastly improved high frequency response. In keeping with our commitment to sustainability, the Nd range is supplied in 100% recyclable packaging.

Nd Magnet technology
Often used in Moving Coil designs (including our own) the Nd7 is the first moving magnet to utilise a Neodymium (Nd) N55 magnet. This is the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet and is a crucial component that makes this unique design possible by delivering extra power than standard bar magnet designs.
Glass filled PPS body
The complete assembly is housed in our zero tolerance Injection moulded glass filled polyphenylene sulphide body (PPS) which is a lightweight and highly rigid material. A low mass body reduces stress on the tonearm bearings and aids free movement which is critical in accurate vinyl replay. This new body design was inspired by our hugely successful MC range.
Cantilever & stylus profile
The Nd7 aluminium cantilever is fitted with a precision perfect fine line nude diamond stylus. This profile provides exceptional tracking accuracy and extracts greater levels of detail from the vinyl surface.
Factory Fitted options
The Nd7 cartridge will be offered as a factory fitted option on the multi award winning Planar 6 and Planar 8 turntable models. Designed specifically with these turntables in mind, the Nd7 promises to extract the very best from your vinyl collection. The factory fitted packages are offered at a discounted rate compared to when purchased separately, ask your Rega dealer for details.
Rega rebuild scheme
The unique pivot pad design of Rega cartridges improves performance by eliminating the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and the main body. This vastly improves tracking ability and stability of the stylus. If you should damage or wear out your Rega cartridge, simply return it to you Rega dealer and they will supply you with a rebuild cartridge fitted with a new cantilever, stylus and pivot pad. Each rebuild is fully tested as a new cartridge would be. The rebuild is sold at a reduced price once you trade in your worn or damaged cartridge that is equivalent to a replacement stylus offered by other manufacturers.

The Rega Nd7 brings deep, defined bass, crisp treble detail and thrilling dynamic punch to premium moving-magnet playback. The Ear found its fine-line stylus adept at uncovering quiet musical accents, harmonics and dense mix detail, while its healthy output makes this an especially persuasive route to revealing vinyl sound without an MC phono stage.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Powerful, well-defined bass and strong dynamic expression make recordings sound engaging and energetic.
Fine-line stylus retrieves low-level details, harmonics and accents, with refined high-frequency resolution and clearer percussion.
High output and secure tracking offer practical compatibility with conventional MM phono stages.
&
Cons
Three-point fixing is easiest on compatible Rega tonearms; non-Rega arms require conventional alignment and omit the front fixing.
The fixed three-point arrangement limits tracking-angle adjustability for listeners who prefer extensive setup tweaking.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
The Nd7 is described as an engaging, articulate and dynamically capable moving-magnet design, with notably deep retrieval of low-level musical information. Its bass strength, refined treble detail and ability to track securely are particular highlights, though the review offers little direct comment on image placement or stage depth.
Overall Sound
93/100
The Ear found the Nd7 highly engaging and articulate, with good dynamics and bass described as a clear strong point. It also reports a crisp, refined presentation, with improved treble clarity helping percussion and fine musical accents emerge more clearly.
Tracking Retrieval
94/100
The review explicitly praises the Nd7's tracking ability and says it digs deeper into recordings, retrieving quieter sounds, harmonics and accents. Its fine-line stylus is said to deliver impressive detail retrieval and extended high-frequency resolution by moving-magnet standards.
Soundstage Imaging
75/100
The review notes greater clarity and separation of small musical details, but says little directly about stereo width, depth, image focus or layering. Spatial performance is therefore not fully documented in the available listening evidence.
FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 82/100
Its healthy 5-6mV output makes the Nd7 straightforward to use with conventional moving-magnet phono inputs, avoiding the extra gain requirements of a low-output MC. Rega's three-point fixing is especially convenient on compatible Rega arms, while installation on other arms may require more conventional two-screw mounting arrangements.
Tonearm Compatibility
82/100
The Nd7's 5-6mV output and 1.75g tracking recommendation make it a practical fit for many MM-capable systems. Its three-point fixing offers easy, repeatable setup with suitable Rega tonearms, but users of non-Rega arms should confirm mounting compatibility and alignment provisions.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
75/100
The Nd7 uses a nude fine-line diamond stylus and miniaturised parallel coils, indicating a carefully specified design. However, the available review provides little direct commentary on body construction, assembly quality, durability or long-term ownership.
Value for Money
88/100
At a price range of roughly 450 to 795, the Nd7 is positioned as a premium moving-magnet cartridge. The Ear recommends considering it before moving to an MC, particularly when the added cost of a capable MC phono stage is included, suggesting that its system-level proposition is well justified.
