KEF Q7 Meta

Bass output is notably generous for the cabinet size, to the point that the reviewer preferred using the supplied port bungs for much of the listening to achieve a tighter, more defined balance. There is a mild mid-bass lift, but listeners seeking considerable low-end weight can run the speakers open-ported.

The upper-midrange transition is described as smooth and the overall voicing remains coherent across the range. However, the bottom-weighted balance can mute upper harmonics somewhat, making some instruments sound a little less realistic and female vocals slightly veiled.

The treble is deliberately gentle, taking the edge off harsh transients from instruments such as trumpet, violin and piccolo. That makes the Q7 Meta forgiving of bright recordings, though the rolled-off presentation sacrifices some bite, air and fine harmonic information.

The speaker creates an airy, spacious field that fills the space between the cabinets and delivers impressive depth. Performers are distinctly located while still retaining the cohesive, connected quality of a live ensemble.

Dynamic swings are described as engaging and immersive, giving music a convincing sense of life when the recording demands it. The Q7 Meta can deliver a strong initial punch while preserving the smaller details as an arrangement builds.

The slim ported cabinet and available satin black, satin white and walnut finishes were considered appropriate to the asking price. KEF uses a plastic plinth, but it was judged tastefully executed rather than a conspicuous compromise; the available comments say little about long-term durability or cabinet resonance control.

At roughly $1,800 per pair in the reviewed market, the Q7 Meta was called a “screamin’ deal” for bringing flagship-derived technologies into this price class. The review goes further, suggesting it may be unmatched for sheer listening enjoyment below $2,000, making it a particularly compelling option among similarly priced floorstanders.
