KEF Q6 Meta — three-way precision with Meta-era clarity
The Q6 Meta marries KEF's 12th-generation Uni-Q concentric driver with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) to deliver an unusually coherent, refined bookshelf/centre-channel sound. The three-way layout (dedicated 100 mm mid and dual 165 mm woofers) gives a tangible, well-bodied midrange and strong, controlled low end, while the vented 19 mm aluminium tweeter with MAT tames resonances for clear, airy highs.
Sonically the Q6 Meta stands out for its imaging and layering: the Uni-Q point-source approach stabilises phantom images and creates a deep, believable soundstage. Dynamics are punchy for the form factor, with a quoted maximum of 109 dB and a sealed three-way cabinet that keeps bass tight and well disciplined. Build quality and finishes follow KEF's recent Q-series refinement, and the speaker pairs naturally with both music and multichannel home theatre.
Recommended for listeners seeking a compact, high-resolution speaker that prioritises tonal accuracy, imaging and low-resonance treble — and for those who may add a sub for the deepest octave.
Pros
MAT-enhanced Uni-Q treble delivers low-resonance, highly detailed highs and reduced distortion.
Three-way Uni-Q layout with a dedicated mid driver produces clear, natural midrange and strong vocal presence.
Point-source Uni-Q and careful crossover engineering give precise imaging and a wide, stable soundstage.
Dual 165 mm woofers in a sealed three-way cabinet deliver controlled, punchy bass for its size.
&
Cons
May lack the deepest octave on some material — a subwoofer can improve low-frequency weight on certain tracks.
Moderate sensitivity (86 dB) means the speaker benefits from higher-powered amplification to fully realise dynamic headroom.

Bass
91/100
Dual 165 mm (6.5") woofers, closed three-way box and a quoted in-room -6 dB response to 36 Hz give very strong low-frequency extension for its size. Controlled, well-extended bass is implied by the sealed design and low distortion spec; very good for a bookshelf form factor.
Mid
90/100
Dedicated 100 mm mid driver in a three-way layout and KEF's Uni-Q architecture suggest clear, well-bodied midrange with accurate timbre and strong vocal presence. Three-way separation reduces intermodulation in the mid band compared with two-way designs.
Treble
90/100
19 mm vented aluminium dome with MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology) and Uni-Q coaxial placement imply refined, extended treble with low resonance and minimal sibilance; distortion specs (<1% above ~68 Hz) support clean high-frequency output.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
Uni-Q driver array provides point-source characteristics that typically yield coherent imaging, stable phantom images and good depth. The three-way topology further helps instrument separation and layering.
Dynamics
89/100
Max output 109 dB and dual woofers allow strong macro dynamics and slam when driven; sensitivity (86 dB) means higher power helps, but amp range (15–200 W) gives headroom for dynamic crescendos.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
90/100
Robust mass (14.1 kg each), three-way sealed design and multiple finish options indicate solid cabinet work and assembly. KEF's known engineering and use of MAT/Uni-Q point to careful driver/crossover implementation.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive single-post bookshelf baseline applied per rules. No DSP/streaming expected or penalized for a passive speaker.
Value for Money
91/100
At the listed price (~849.99) the Q6 Meta offers an unusually sophisticated three-way layout, dual 6.5" woofers and KEF's Meta/Uni-Q tech; strong specification-to-price ratio vs typical two-way competitors at this tier.
