The Focal Cub Evo brings deep, controlled bass to compact music and home-cinema systems, pairing an 8.25-inch Polyflex woofer with bass-reflex extension to 30Hz. Its compact cabinet, RCA and LFE connectivity, and reassuringly substantial construction make it a polished route to fuller low-end weight, while its 35–150Hz operating range supports flexible placement and system matching.
Pros
Compact active bass-reflex design offers low-frequency extension to 30Hz, with an 8.25-inch Polyflex woofer designed for solid bass output in smaller rooms.
RCA stereo and dedicated LFE inputs provide practical connection options for both hi-fi and home-cinema systems.
&
Cons
The feature set is straightforward, with no supplied evidence of wireless control, app integration, or advanced DSP room correction.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 81/100
Bass
82/100
Assessment based on specifications: 8.25" Polyflex driver, bass-reflex design, -6dB point at 30 Hz and ±3dB 35–150 Hz. These specs imply solid low-frequency extension and controlled output for an 8" unit, but no reviewer measurements or listening outcomes were provided to push the score higher.
Dynamics
78/100
With a relatively small sealed/ported driver and bass-reflex tuning to ~30 Hz, transient and slam should be competent for nearfield and small-room use. Absence of reviewer impressions or measured distortion/headroom forces a conservative mid-high score rather than reference-level marks.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Integration
75/100
No review outcome evidence supplied about blending with mains or room. Only feature-level data (size, driver, ports, RCA/LFE inputs) is available — Features ≠ Integration; add outcome evidence or lower Integration. Given typical Focal voicing and compact size, reasonable integration is expected but not proven here.
Build Quality
85/100
Focal's typical construction and the product's compact, 8 kg cabinet suggest good materials and finish. No teardown or reviewer comments provided, so this rating relies on brand reputation and product spec/weight rather than direct evidence.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Basic but useful connectivity: RCA left/right and LFE inputs. No wireless, app control, or advanced DSP reported in the provided specs; the score reflects a solid baseline feature set for a small active subwoofer.
Value for Money
70/100
List price provided (849) places this in a premium bracket for an 8.25" sub. Without review-based performance comparisons or explicit 'best in class' language, value is judged modest given price-to-driver-size and lack of evidence for exceptional performance.
