Room-filling realism
Its new Tweeter-on-Top configuration and the revolutionary Biomimetic Suspension in its decoupled midrange drive unit combine to raise the 703 S3 to all-new heights of performance.
A house for high frequencies
The 700 Series features the latest generation of our iconic Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing. Its new, more elongated form incorporates a longer tube-loading system to produce an even more free and open sound with high frequencies. The carefully decoupled housing is milled from a single solid block of aluminum to better resist resonance.
Sharper detail
Carbon Dome tweeters are purpose-built for the 700 Series. Delivering a dramatic improvement on the aluminum double dome tweeter, they raise the breakup threshold to 47kHz, for pinpoint imaging accuracy and detail.
Truly amazing sound
Thanks to its composite construction, the Continuum™ cone avoids the abrupt transitions in behavior that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit. The result is a more open, neutral performance that delivers voices and instruments with precision and transparency.
Clean and clear
Every three-way loudspeaker in the new 700 Series has a dedicated midrange cone using four key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: the Continuum cone, FST™, Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling, the latter ensuring minimal interference from the operation of the loudspeaker’s bass drivers.
A triumph of science
Developed using advanced computer modelling techniques, the Aerofoil™ Profile bass cone has variable thickness, providing stiffness and rigidity where it’s needed most. The result: deep and dynamic bass.

The 703 S3 delivers pinpoint imaging, a tall, expansive soundstage and richly textured vocals from its sophisticated three-way design. HiFi News highlights its controlled bass, lucid midrange and smooth, open treble, while Graig Neville found its instrument placement exceptional. It is a poised, beautifully built tower that brings acoustic, orchestral and vocal recordings vividly into focus.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Exceptional imaging, with precisely placed instruments and a soundstage extending well beyond the cabinets.
Rich, accurate vocal and piano reproduction, with textured midrange detail and convincing timbre.
Controlled, articulate bass remains detailed at higher volumes without bleeding into the midrange.
Premium fit, finish and substantial cabinet construction feel competitive with more expensive loudspeakers.
&
Cons
The upper register can sound sparkly or energized with unsuitable electronics and benefits from careful amplifier matching.
Listeners seeking substantial deep-bass weight in larger rooms may prefer subwoofer support.
Dense rock recordings can lack some desired midrange snarl and edge.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100
The 703 S3 is widely praised for its lucid, expressive presentation, unusually precise imaging and a refined sense of scale from a relatively slim tower. Its balance rewards careful partnering: bass is controlled rather than dominant, while the revealing upper range can sound either smooth and open or slightly restrained and system-sensitive depending on electronics and recordings.
Bass
91/100
Ecoustics found the bass strong, quick and well defined, retaining detail at elevated levels without bleeding into the midrange. Hi-Fi News also heard tangible air movement and chest-thumping rhythm when required, although Part-Time Audiophile considered the low end leaner than preferred and suggested a subwoofer may suit listeners seeking greater weight.
Mid
93/100
Vocals are a major strength, with Ecoustics praising rich, textured male and female voices, accurate timbre and authentic piano decay. Part-Time Audiophile likewise heard convincing body and presence from acoustic instruments, though both it and Hi-Fi News noted that dense rock can leave listeners wanting a little more snarl and edge.
Treble
89/100
Hi-Fi News heard an open, smooth and sweet top end, while Ecoustics appreciated the absence of harsh peaks and considered its relaxed nature well suited to long listening sessions. The balance is not entirely neutral, however: Ecoustics heard a small dip in presence, while Part-Time Audiophile and Darko Audio found the treble can become sparkly or overly energized with unsuitable recordings, sources or amplification.
Soundstage Imaging
96/100
Imaging is the clearest standout. Part-Time Audiophile called it perhaps the best imaging and soundstaging speaker it had heard in its room, describing placement that surpassed speakers costing twice as much, while Ecoustics and Hi-Fi News also heard precise, stable images extending well beyond the cabinets. Darko Audio similarly praised its tall stage, laser-guided placement and unusually clear space between performers.
Dynamics
90/100
The speakers remain composed and controlled as volume rises, with Hi-Fi News hearing a large-scale presentation that punched back convincingly on orchestral music. Ecoustics found their pacing excellent on demanding material, although Darko Audio felt they could fall slightly short of the strongest macrodynamic punch and noted they benefit from powerful, well-controlled amplification.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
94/100
Reviewers consistently praise the 703 S3's substantial, beautifully finished cabinet and premium fit and finish. Ecoustics says Bowers & Wilkins has gone the extra mile with the seamless finish, while Part-Time Audiophile found its exterior execution competitive with considerably more expensive speakers; the separate aluminium tweeter housing, robust plinth and improved terminals reinforce the upmarket impression.
Value for Money
97/100
At $5,999 per pair in the US and approximately £4,200 in the UK, this is a serious investment that Ecoustics says also calls for suitably substantial source and amplification components. Even so, reviewers consider it highly competitive among $6,000-$10,000 loudspeakers, and both Audiophilepure and Hi-Fi News describe it as a “steal of the century” when used with music that plays to its considerable strengths.
